Danny Awes and Mike Makatron had been talking about creating a collaborative art piece for a number of years before this opportunity arose. Both known for creating “jungle boogie” artworks that encompass their individual styles, when we got a call from the owner of this (then) soon-to-open tree shop about his (awesome) blank wall, we knew the time was ripe for this pairing of jungle boogie masters.

Knowing that these two artists would create something pretty special, the owner of the tree shop put his complete trust in Dan and Maka to make the most of the space. His only input in to the creative process was to suggest a theme that he and his staff had discussed around covering buildings with greenery. This suggestion sewed the seed that was to become this truly collaborative “dystopian utopia” of trees, buildings and anything else these two artists felt had a place in this world they created on the St Kilda Tree Shop wall. I mean who doesn’t want to be transported to a world where buildings are covered in trees?
