...Our goal was to pay tribute to not only Dusty’s achievements, but his connection to PUMA and to create something special for all Richmond Tigers fans. This artwork became an overnight sensation. We couldn’t have asked for a better result...

PUMA Australia
WE ARE 90 DEGREES

One artist - Dan. One project manager - Helainie. Together we create murals that make spaces better. We think our work speaks for itself. It's what we're known for. It's what we love doing. We've been in business since 2012. And Dan's been painting his whole life.

Some things you may be wondering.

What is the process for commissioning live graffiti art for a brand activation?

First we need a top-line brief and project scope. From there we provide a quote based on the size of the artwork, the duration of the activation and any prep work required. Once we're aligned on cost, we lock the project in with a deposit.

Once the project is locked in, Dan does some initial brand research, reviews the top-line brief and project scope and meets with project stakeholders to explore possible design directions. Then he develops a couple of written concept directions for you to respond to, and once a creative direction is agreed upon he designs the final artwork to scale as a full-colour digital mock-up. All discussions around creative go directly through Dan — so nothing gets lost in translation. Helainie manages the client relationship throughout, connecting you with Dan at the right moments and handling all logistics, paperwork and insurances on the project management side.

Once the design is signed off, Dan prepares for the activation. Depending on the timeline and site / venue access, he may prep parts of the artwork beforehand and complete the most impactful elements live on the day — or paint the entire piece live from start to finish. Either way, what gets painted reflects the approved design with precision and is always a spectacle for the audience.

How much does a brand activation artist cost?

The cost of a brand activation depends on a number of factors — the size of the artwork, the duration of the activation, the complexity of the design and how much prep work (including logo stencil cutting) is required prior to the event. Every project is different so every quote is tailored to the specific scope.

Our costs for brand activations start from $5,800 plus GST — not including substrate. Book a free 30-minute consultation to get a clear sense of cost for your brand activation. We'll talk through what you're looking to achieve, scope the project properly and get you an accurate quote — so you can plan and budget with confidence.

How long does a live brand activation painting take?

It depends on the size and complexity of the artwork and the duration of your event. We stay for as long as your activation requires — we're flexible and will work around your event schedule and venue access. The beauty of Dan's process is that the artwork is always designed and approved in advance, so time on the day is spent painting — not problem solving. If your timeline is tight, we can also prep parts of the artwork beforehand so the most impactful elements are completed live for maximum effect.

Can a graffiti brand activation work indoors?

Yes — and we do it regularly. Dan works exclusively with water-based paints for indoor activations, which means minimal fumes and no health risks for guests or staff. We protect all surrounding surfaces and floors as standard, and we ask to be positioned away from food service areas where possible. We've painted at major venues across Melbourne, Sydney and Australia-wide and can liaise directly with venue managers around materials and requirements — one less thing for you to manage.

If you're unsure whether your venue is suitable, bring it up during your consultation and we'll work through it with you.

How do you work with brand guidelines and logos?

Dan is a trained graphic designer with over a decade of experience working with globally recognised brands. He is completely comfortable working to brand guidelines — whatever the client requires, whether that's a full guidelines document or a logo and a set of references, Dan will work within it.

For logo accuracy, Dan cuts precise stencils prior to the activation — so brand marks are painted with the same precision you'd expect from print. Logo files supplied to him in vector format work best.

Dan's background in graphic design means he brings an extra layer of thinking to every brief — helping you avoid potential pitfalls before they become problems on the day.

Why commission or engage an artist directly instead of using an artist booking platform?

When you book through a platform, you're booking an artist through a middleman. The platform takes a cut from both sides so the fee you've budgeted for the artist gets diluted before it ever reaches them. A platform taking 20% means the artist working within your budget is actually working to 80% of it, which affects the quality and experience level you can access. The platform also limits direct communication until you've paid for premium access, and when something goes wrong, getting a resolution isn't straightforward.

When you work with us directly not only do get you the best possible artist for for your budget, but you also have Dan's number and Helainie's number from day one. No platform fees, no communication barriers, no uncertainty about who is accountable if something doesn't go to plan. Just two experienced professionals with a track record of delivering for some of the world's most recognised brands — and a genuine stake in making sure your activation lands exactly as it should.

What do you paint on for a brand activation?

This depends on the site / venue, your goals and whether you want to keep the artwork after the event. If you have a suitable wall on site — interior or exterior — that's often the simplest and most cost-effective option. If you need a temporary structure, we partner with trusted event builders to supply a range of options: freestanding frames with boards you can reuse, boards on a frame that don't need to be kept, or canvas stretched over a frame that can be removed and hung as a finished artwork after the event. We can also supply canvases in any size if you want a more portable, keepable result.

A custom-built wall gives a great visual result and the most flexibility in terms of size and placement, but it is also the most significant additional cost. Depending on the site / venue this option may also require an engineering certificate. Helainie will help you work out the best option for your site / venue, timeline and budget during your initial consultation.
