Pretty much. It usually comes down to venue and whether they approve the activity but we are happy liaise with the venue and reassure them as required. Get in touch and we'll help you work out the right format for your brief and any measures we might need to take to ensure your venue is on board with live painting.
Absolutely. For live painting Dan usually works to a theme if he is free styling an artwork (no design supplied to client) or a brief if he is designing an artwork to be approved for painting live. The artwork can reflect your brand, your event theme, your location, your industry or any combination of these if you're going down the designed artwork route. The a free styled artwork, Dan can work to a colour scheme and general theme but has full creative freedom at the event. Before the event we'll meet and discuss which option you'd prefer. Either way, Dan paints live artworks that are intentional, impressive and something guests can connect with.
It depends on the size and complexity of the artwork and the duration of your event. Dan stays for as long as you want him to. Depending on artwork size, he may need to start the painting before the event to ensure it is completed by the time you'd like him to finish up. For longer events he can paint the entire artwork from start to finish on the night. We'll discuss the best approach for you when we meet.
Dan is approachable, loves talking about his work and is more than happy to chat with guests while he paints. For guests who want to get involved, we can incorporate a section of the artwork for guests to add their own mark (a tag, a shape, a colour) under Dan's guidance. To be honest, it's not something we love to encourage if you're hoping to hang the artwork after the event but we get it - it a great icebreaker, it's good content and it adds layer of participation to the experience. We can also just give guests an empty spray can to hold to the artwork for a photo. Just let us know from the outset and we can build it into the plan.
Pricing for live event painting depends on the size of the artwork, any prep work required (including design) and whether a temporary wall structure is needed. The best way to get an accurate quote is to book a free consultation so we can understand your brief properly.
In terms of lead time, the more notice the better particularly for events requiring a designed and approved artwork or a purpose-built wall. That said, if your event is coming up quickly get in touch anyway and we'll do our best to make it work.
Dan can paint on almost any surface — canvas, timber, MDF, brick, concrete, plasterboard and more. For events we usually use one or two custom built canvases placed side by side. If there is a wall at the venue that can be painted that is an awesome option too. For bigger events we work with a trusted events builder who can design and install a purpose-built temporary wall for any venue or outdoor space.
Artwork size depends on your venue, budget, what you plan to do with the artwork after the event and how prominent you'd like the painting to be. A larger artwork has more visual impact and gives guests a better view from a distance, but a smaller canvas can work beautifully for more intimate events and is easily hung in a space after the event. We're happy to scope all this with you in a free consult.
When you book through a platform, you're booking an artist through a middleman. The platform takes a cut from both sides so the fee you've budgeted for the artist gets diluted before it ever reaches them. A platform taking 20% means the artist working within your budget is actually working to 80% of it, which affects the quality and experience level you can access. The platform also limits direct communication until you've paid for premium access, and when something goes wrong, getting a resolution isn't straightforward.
When you work with us directly not only do get you the best possible artist for for your budget, but you also have Dan's number and Helainie's number from day one. No platform fees, no communication barriers, no uncertainty about who is accountable if something doesn't go to plan. Just two experienced professionals with a track record of delivering the best possible results for our clients.
The artwork is yours to do whatever you like with. Hang it in your office or boardroom, give it away as a lucky door prize, auction it for charity or present it as a gift to a valued client or guest. We can arrange for the artwork to be shipped domestically or internationally.
